#hear the unheard

In a creative dialogue with machines and sounds, students from the Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts make the ‘unheard’ aspects of industrial culture audible in this concert performance entitled ‘hear the unheard’. What sound stories are hidden in the Chemnitz Industrial Museum? What untold stories can we bring to light through music? From human-machine duets and spinning mill poetry to a robotics chorale – with live electronics, video works, contemporary repertoire, language and improvisation, the six musicians weave their perspectives into various sound installations in the permanent exhibition. Follow us with the help of a digital map into this special musical exhibition and discover the various answers live during your visit to the museum.

This ‘museum concert’ was created under the direction of Franziska Ritter as part of the workshop series ‘Curating in the Arts’ organised by the Institute for Contemporary Music IzM at the Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts (HfMDK) in the summer and winter semesters of 2025 in cooperation with the Chemnitz Industrial Museum. We would like to thank Jürgen Kabus, Romana Klose and the wonderful team at the Industrial Museum for making this experiment possible.

The following photos show the students' prototype experiments in July 2025.
