LIPSPIL - The Art of Speaking 26. September 2025

#wort:klang

26-28 September 2025 I 11:00 am - 6:00 pm I L WIE MATERIE

The project LIPSPIL – The Art of Speaking is a collaboration with hearing- and speech-impaired students from the Leopoldschule Altshausen (educational advisor: Anja Mayer-Pelzl). LIPSPIL combines art, inclusion, and communication. The project name LIPSPIL - a palindrome formed from the German words for “lips” and “play” - highlights its creative approach: language is understood not only as an acoustic phenomenon but also as a visual one. For the young participants, their expertise in reading and communicating through lip movements becomes the artistic starting point. In this project, lip movements become the “paint brush” that transforms language into art.

In a two-stage process, the participants first develop sentences and words, which they then physically “speak onto paper.” The project includes a workshop week at the Leopoldschule (July 2025), a presentation at WORT:KLANG (September 2025), and will remain part of the KON:TEXT exhibition. The highlight of the exhibition is in fact the public presentation of the works by the students: an installation that perceives language as a work of art. LIPSPIL is more than an art project - it's a statement for inclusion, creative empowerment, and alternative forms of communication, proving that language knows no boundaries and art is a universal means of expression.

Admission is free (donations are welcome). Open daily from 11 am to 6 pm at L WIE MATERIE, Schlossbezirk Forsthaus 1, 88682 Salem.
