Musical interventions on Saturday, 12 July 2025 at 12 and 2 pm
in the permanent exhibition of the Chemnitz Industrial Museum

In this experimental concert performance, young musicians will explore the theme of UMBRUCH in the permanent exhibition of the Chemnitz Industrial Museum. In a creative dialogue with the machines, sounds and stories of industrial culture, they make the ‘unheard’ audible musically and scenically. What upheavals characterised industrial culture in Saxony? What sound stories are hidden behind the exhibited objects? And what happens when music meets industrial culture? Using live electronics, contemporary repertoire, language and improvisation, the musicians set out in search of answers - and develop spontaneous live interactions directly during your visit to the museum.

The experimental laboratory was created under the direction of Franziska Ritter as part of the workshop series ‘Curating in the Arts’ / „Kuratieren in den Künsten“ of the Institute for Contemporary Music IzM of the Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts (HfMDK) in cooperation with the Chemnitz Industrial Museum in the summer semester 2025.

In May 2025, we were able to research the location and search for sounds in the Industrial Museum and immerse ourselves in the various perspectives of ‘curatorial practice’ in dialogue with museum director Jürgen Kabus, sound artist Jonas Urbat and cultural mediator Tom Ritschel. We are currently developing the concert performance from this material.
