Orchestras, ensembles and concert halls in Germany are increasingly addressing sustainability issues. More and more ecological initiatives, signing declarations and staging concerts are founded, with a programmatic reference to the climate crisis. Can we already see signs of a transformation towards a sustainable concert business? To what extent must new criteria of excellence in the orchestra sector be defined for this purpose, and what structural preconditions must be created?

On 7th and 8th July 2023, stakeholders from the German cultural and concert sectors as well as from sustainability research and politics will come together in Potsdam in order to exchange views on sustainability issues in classical music. There will be keynote speeches by Prof. Julia Glesner and Bernhard König as well as panel discussions on the development of new criteria of "excellence" or "quality" in orchestral practice and on the topics of diversity, artistic citizenship, deceleration and art-science cooperation in the concert business. Our artistic director Franziska Ritter will moderate the following panel discussion "(How) can deceleration succeed in the concert business?

Featuring musicians of the Kammerakademie Potsdam, 1:1 CONCERTS will be offering over 70 deceleration moments at 6 different venues at RIFS and Waschhaus Potsdam for the conference participants and the Potsdam audience.

The conference will take place within the framework of the Musical Sustainability Festival 2023 of the Kammerakademie Potsdam, which will offer a diverse artistic programme at various locations in Potsdam from 07 to 09 July.
