1:1 CONCERTS

1 musician, 1 listener – at a 2 meter distance.

The 1:1 CONCERTS© defy the corona crisis, crate powerful artistic spaces and raise solidarity donations supporting musicians in distress.

Cultural life has almost come to a complete standstill as it has vanished behind digital screens. More than ever, people are in need of genuine personal contact and a commonly and directly shared musical experience, yet the current limitations are likely to stay with us for a long time. With 1:1 CONCERTS© we have now created an opportunity for an authentic concert experience that is takes into account all of the current Covid-19 restrictions.

A 1:1 CONCERTS© features a 10 min. non-verbal 1-to-1-encounter between a listener and a musician. The opening eye contact and ensuing mutual gaze is the impulse for a very personal concert  where both sides experience an unprecedented intensity allowing proximity from a distance. The concert attendees do not know who is going to play. Whether they hear a jazz saxophone, a double bass or a baroque flute will come as a surprise. Moreover, the concept explores extraordinary concert venues – concerts can take you to an art gallery, a qiuet backyard, an empty factory hall or an allotment garden. Spaces and venues are provided by private hosts.

Be part of our team and support musicians in need!

The objective of the 1:1 CONCERTS project is to make a substantial contribution to the preservation of our cultural landscape by bringing together musicians, listeners and hosts through the various institutions: the voluntary donations of our concert visitors go directly to the Emergency Fund of the German Orchestra Foundationor similar regional foundations supporting musicians who are in distress due to the corona-driven cancellation of all concerts and performances.

You can register for a 1:1 CONCERT in your vicinity through our partner institutions – see menulink BOOKING.

The project was launched in Stuttgart together with the Staatsorchester Stuttgart and the SWR Symphonieorchester, followed by the Sächsische Staatskapelle and Philharmonie Dresden, Marbach, Theater Erfurt,  Berlin, Munich and Frankfurt. Other institutions and venues will be joining soon.

Story behind

The concept is based on a 1:1 CONCERT format developed by the initiators Prof. Stephanie Winker, Franziska Ritter, Christian Siegmund and Sophie von Mansberg especially for the chamber music festival “Sommerkonzerte Volkenroda”. In 2019, the 1:1 CONCERTS at the Volkenroda Monastery managed to touch the hearts of many people very deeply. Within a very short time, numerous colleagues, friends & fans have now taken up the project and are actively helping to spread the word… and the music.
